The market demand for efficient communication among different CAx systems (including communication in time, i.e. long time archiving) is increasing. Apart from the required technical infrastructure this requires that the involved computer systems “understand” the communicated concepts in the same way. This common understanding is achieved through the application of common information models.
Information models are therefore developed and included as a major or minor integral part of some standards.
Publications containing an information model
IEC 61360-2 “Standard data element types with associated classification scheme for electric components – Part 2: EXPRESS Dictionary schema”
This publication provides a formal model for data according to the scope as given in IEC 61360-1 and
ISO 13584-42. It provides a means for the computer-sensible representation and exchange of such data, allowing for the implementation of dictionary systems dealing with data delivered according to either of the standards.
IEC 81346-1 Industrial systems, installations and equipment and industrial products – Structuring principles and reference designation – Part 1: General rules”
This publication provides provides an information model on the reference designation system specified in the publication. In addition, an information model for the 81346 framework is specified, covering the complete series of
publications.
ISO 10303-212 “Industrial automation systems and integration — Product data representation and exchange, Part 212: Electrotechnical design and installation”
This publication specifies the use of integrated resources necessary for the exchange of design information of electrotechnical systems.
The publication is developed in a common work between IEC TC 3 and ISO TC 184 SC 4.
