Information management, document management is about the description, structuring and control of information containers, documents and document collections on specific subjects during their life cycle in order to make the information retrievable and reliable. Identification of an information container and document, and recognition of the stages of their development are essential for the reliable storing and retrieval of these and the information presented in them.

IEC 62023 Structuring of technical information and documentation”
This publication provides rules for applying a method of structuring technical information and documentation by using a main document (leading document) for the clustering of the information for each object. It provides the link between a plant or product structuring and the information/document management.

IEC 62569-1 Generic specification of information on products by properties – Part 1: Principles and methods
The IEC 62569 series defines principles and methods for the specification of objects by object properties, for example in data sheets, by utilizing predefined and internationally standardized (dictionary) properties residing in the data dictionary of IEC 61360.

The IEC 62569 series is being developed to transfer the former paper-based applications of blank detail specifications or product descriptions towards supporting electronic business allowing the evaluation and management of described items by computers.

This part of IEC 62569 specifies several qualifiers to be used with object or (dictionary) properties and their values indicating life cycle and other aspects of the property. It is a prerequisite for the usage of the other parts of IEC 62569

IEC/ISO 81355 International standard series Classification of information and information class codes (ICC)
The international standard 81355 series is dealing with classification of information independently of its use in documents and documentation. The classification codes are intended to be used together with the document designation for easy recognition of what the document deals with.

The standard series is developed in a common effort between IEC TC 3 and ISO TC 10.

IEC 81355-1 “Part 1: Rules and classification tables”
This publication is providing the principles and rues for the classification of information and do also define classes of information and their corresponding class codes.

The publication is replacing the old publication IEC 61355-1 “Classification and designation of documents for plants, systems and equipment – Part 1: Rules and classification tables”.

The publication is under development.

ISO 81355-2 “Part 2: Examples for information”
This publication is is intended to provide examples of information containers and documents for different information classes.

IEC/ISO 82045 International standard series  Document management
This series of publications are providing a common set or rules and recommendations for management of documents and documentation, supporting the use of Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS), and deals with different aspects of document management.

The standard series is developed in a common effort between IEC TC 3 and ISO TC 10.

IEC 82045-1 Part 1: Principles and methods
This publication is providing the principles and methods to be applied for document management.

IEC 82045-2 Part 2: Examples for information
This publication is defining relevant metadata for documents and documentation, and is also defining and describing an information model for document management.

Publications for other committees

As TC 3 has a horizontal function regarding documentation, it has been considered usefull to provide guideline to other technical committees on how the requirements developed by TC 3 san be implemented in other publications within IEC.

IEC TS 62666 Guidelines for the inclusion of documentation aspects in product standards
This publication provides guidelines to ensure consistency with respect to the specification of requirements for information, documentation and graphical symbols in IEC publications provided by system or product committees.
