IEC 60617 “Graphical symbols for diagrams”
This publications is since long well established, and implemented in most countries and regions in the world.

To support the management of IEC 60617 it has, as the first IEC standard, been converted into database form, accessible over the Internet. The content of the database is the standard and designated IEC 60617 DB. This allows not only better access, but also improved – quicker – maintenance. See the present  entry page. The market for the standards in this area has traditionally been design and engineering companies for electrotechnical equipment, systems and installations. With the use of CAD systems today a new market is possible to explore, and that is the CAD system suppliers. This, however, will require that the symbols are delivered electronically as symbol libraries, with associated functionality, easily adaptable to and processible in different design and engineering systems.

IEC/ISO 81714 International standard series “Design of graphical symbols for use in the technical documentation of products”
This series of publications are a common series developed by ISO TC 10 and IEC TC 3, providing a common set or rules and reccommendations for the design of graphical symbols for use in technical documentation of products.

ISO 81714-1 “Part 1: Basic rules”
This publication specifies basic rules for the design of graphical symbols for use in the technical documentation of products, taking into account basic application needs.

IEC 81714-2 “Part 2: Specification for graphical symbols in a computer sensible form, including graphical symbols for a reference library, and requirements for their interchange”
This publication specifies requirements for graphical symbols to be included in a reference symbol library in a computer sensible form, and requirements for their interchange among computer aided tools.

IEC 81714-3 “Part 3: Classification of connect nodes, networks and their encoding”
This publication specifies basic rules for the design of graphical symbols for use in the technical documentation of products, taking into account basic application needs.

IEC TR 61352 “Mnemonics and symbols for integrated circuits “
This publication provides recommendations, mainly to designers and manufacturers of integrated circuits, in order to arrive at symbols for devices with a consistent use of mnemonics and qualifying symbols.

IEC TR 61734 “Application of symbols for binary logic and analogue elements “
This publication provides conventions, helpful when applying IEC 60617 to symbols for catalogues of real devices, and shows preferable choices where alternative techniques are provided in the standard.

IEC TR 62711 “Mnemonics and designations of symbols for measuring relays, instruments and related device “
This publication provides recommendations for consistent use of mnemonics and qualifying symbols to be applied to symbols representing devices used in systems for monitoring, protection, switching, and controlling of apparatus in electrical substations, generating stations, power utilization and conversion facilities, and equipment designed for automatic protection of power systems.

IEC 62744 “Representation of states of objects by graphical symbols “
This publication provides generic rules for the representation of states of objects by graphical symbols standardized in IEC 60617, ISO 14617, IEC 60417. It specifies which types of presentation facilities are recommended to present the different operational states to humans.

IEC TS 63064 “Graphical symbols for diagrams – Guidance on design for standardization in IEC 60617 “
This publication provides guidance and basic principles on how to design graphical symbols for diagrams for standardization and inclusion in IEC 60617. The document does not specify how to apply such graphical symbols in the diagrams .

IEC TR 63358-1 “Graphical symbols for diagrams – Part 1: General, qualifying and generic symbols “
This publication contains a collection of generic symbols, general symbols and qualifying symbols for diagrams taken from IEC 60617. Existing symbols in the IEC 60617 database are classified according to the classification proposed in the document.
